Life

Born in Maragheh (Merâga) in South Azerbaijan, he learned music from his father Gaybî. He served at the Jalayirid rulers' courts in Tabriz and Baghdad; Timur took him to Samarkand, and he later moved to Herat, where he enjoyed the patronage of Shah Rukh and Baysunghur Mirza. He was both a composer and performer and a great music theorist; the Câmiu'l-elhân and the Makāsıdü'l-elhân are among his works. He died in 1435 in Herat during a plague epidemic.[1, 2]
