Behind-the-bridge sound

Köprü arkası sesi

A short, dry, high-pitched sound produced on the kanun by striking with the plectrum the short string segments behind the bridge, between the bridge and the tailpiece; also called the behind-the-bridge stroke. It is sprinkled in as an accent, especially in lively, rhythmic pieces, and is a technique distinct from şelpe and çekme. On the virtual kanun you can try it by touching the short strings to the right of the bridge.
