How does the makam quiz work?
Rast, Uşşak, Hicaz, Nihavend, Hüseynî, Segâh, Kürdîlihicazkâr and Saba are paired off. Each makam’s melody follows the same pattern: it rises from its tonic (karar) to its dominant (güçlü) and returns to the tonic. The only thing that tells the melodies apart is the makam’s pitches and intervals, so your choice rests directly on the sound of the makam. After seven rounds you see the makam you liked most, its description, pieces and makam page. This is not a personality test; it is a playful way to discover which makam’s colour your ear is drawn to.
