Life
An Alevi-Bektashi âşık and poet generally held to have lived in the 16th century; he is presumed to have been born in the village of Banaz in Sivas. He is regarded as one of the Seven Great Poets (Yedi Ulu Ozan) of the Alevi tradition. There is no direct written record of his life; what is known rests on his deyiş poems and on legends, and his pen name is thought to have been used by several âşıks in different periods. His nefes poems have long been sung in cem ceremonies and tekkes.[1, 2]
