Life

Sultan Veled, the eldest son of Mevlânâ Celâleddîn-i Rûmî, was born in 1226 in Lârende (Karaman) and grew up in his father's circle and in Damascus. In 1292 he succeeded to Mevlânâ's position, spread the Mevlevî order in Anatolia by sending out deputies (halife) and regulated the order's rules of conduct; the three-round devr-i veledî in the semâhane is traced back to him. He wrote mesnevîs such as the Rebâbnâme, and he is also recorded as having played the rebab. He died in 1312 in Konya.[1, 2, 3]
