Life

Kaygusuz Abdal is believed to have been born in the Alanya region; tradition holds that his real name was Gaybî and that he was also known as Alâeddin. He turned to the dervish path by becoming a disciple of Abdal Musa and was trained by him for many years; he travelled to Egypt and the holy places. He wrote in both syllabic and aruz meter and is known for his şathiye and for poems that vividly depict everyday life. Besides his Divan he wrote works such as Budalaname, Dilgüşa, Sarayname and Vücudname. Continuing the path of Yunus Emre, he is counted among the founding poets of Alevi-Bektashi literature; his nefes are sung in this tradition.[1, 2]
