Life

Qutb al-Din al-Shirazi was born in Shiraz and died in Tabriz. He studied astronomy and philosophy with Nasir al-Din al-Tusi at the Maragheh Observatory. In Anatolia he served as judge (kadı) in Sivas and Malatya; he also stayed in Baghdad, Konya, Egypt and Damascus. His Persian encyclopedic work Durrat al-Taj, completed in 1305, contains, besides logic, philosophy, astronomy and arithmetic, an extensive section on music; this section is one of the main sources that elaborate Safi al-Din's edvar system. He also did work in optics.[1, 2]
