Usul

Devr-i Revan

A 14-beat usul (14/8, or the heavier 14/4); made up of a semai and a sofyan following one another twice, that is, of two Devr-i Hindi. Because it is widely used in Mevlevî âyins, it is also called the Mevlevî or the Âyin Devr-i Revan; it also appears in peşrev, beste and şarkı. The 13-beat Şarkı Devr-i Revan and the Bektashi Devr-i Revan are separate usuls.
