Life

Kadri Bey, also called Âmâ Kadri Çelebi, was from Istanbul and was blind; what is known about him rests largely on Esad Efendi's Atrabü'l-âsâr. He lived in the period from Osman II to Mehmed IV and is estimated to have died in 1650–1651. He was a hânende with a full voice and a prolific composer; a few of his works have survived. His Nevâ ağır semai is regarded as one of the oldest examples of this form.
