Life

His birth name was Wojciech Bobowski; he was born around 1610 in Poland. Taken captive and brought to Istanbul, he was trained in the Enderun and served at the palace as a hânende; because he played the santur he was also known as 'Santûrî'. He worked as an interpreter at the Imperial Council (Divan-ı Hümayun) and translated the Bible into Turkish. His Mecmûa-i Sâz ü Söz, written in Western notation, is one of the most important sources for the music of the period.[1, 2]
