Life

Born in 1607 in Edirne, he came to Istanbul with his family and worked in his father's halva shop until the age of eighteen. After being admitted to the Enderun he enjoyed the close attention of Murad IV and joined his musâhibs (companions); the sultan often listened to him play the tambur and sing Rumelian türküs. He became famous as a master of the tambur. He left the palace in 1640 and died in Istanbul in 1662. Thirteen peşrevs and saz semais of his have survived; his Rast peşrevs are especially famous.[1, 2]
