Life

Kömürcüzâde Hâfız Mehmed Efendi, the brother of Şehlevendim Abdullah Ağa, was trained in the Enderun and, thanks to his beautiful voice, was admitted among the hânendes and became a musâhib-i şehriyârî (companion to the sultan). He took part in the court fasıls under Selim III and Mahmud II. Together with İsmâil Dede Efendi he composed the Neveser, Hüzzam and Şevkefza fasıls; his Hüzzam ağır remel beste is regarded as one of the most artful examples of its kind. He taught religious music to Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi.
