Life

Şeyh Abdülali Efendi was a composer believed to have lived in the 16th century. He is reported to have been the sheikh of a Sufi order and to have been called “hâce-i sânî” (the second master); this title indicates that he was regarded as an authority in music second only to Abdülkādir-i Merâgī. Some of his works have been lost and some have been attributed to Merâgī; only four of his works survive in notation.
