Like compound makams it follows a descending seyir; its scale consists of the Hüseyni pentachord transposed to Hüseyni, the Buselik pentachord in its original position and the Çargah pentachord transposed to Rast. The first dominant is Hüseyni, the second Neva and the third Dügah; it comes to rest on the Rast pitch.[1]

    Time and effect in early sources

    • Time: according to Şirvânî, night prayer time (isha).
    • Effect: Şirvânî counts it among the modes that bring sorrow and calm and writes that it reminds those far from home of their homeland; in the naming attributed to Urmevî it is the "cowardice" degree, whereas Şuûrî says it dispels fear.[2]

    This is the tradition reported by Fethullah Şirvânî (15th century) and Hekim Şuûrî (17th century); it is not a scientific or medical claim. The makam of the same name in that period may not be identical to today's.
