Cantemir notation

Kantemir notası

The letter notation used by Dimitrie Cantemir (1673–1723) in his work Kitâbu 'İlmi'l-Mûsikî 'alâ Vechi'l-Hurûfât (The Book of the Science of Music According to Letters). Pitches are written with letters and durations with numerals; one octave from Rast to Gerdaniye has 17 pitches. With this notation Cantemir recorded hundreds of the peşrev and saz semâî pieces of his time; the notation of his contemporary Nâyî Osman Dede (d. 1729) is similar.
