Life

A composer of religious music, şeyh and zâkir, called Çâlâkzâde because he was the son of Çâlâk Ahmed Efendi, şeyh of the Halvetî-Ramazânî order. He lived in Istanbul; he joined the Bayramiyye and in 1727 became şeyh of the Çâlâk Tekke in Cağaloğlu. He is counted among the zâkirs and mevlidhans (mevlid reciters) of his time. He is known as the musician who composed the most ilahis after Derviş Ali Şîruganî; he died in 1757 and was buried in the tekke's graveyard.[1]
