Life

He lived in the 18th century; his dates of birth and death are uncertain. He was trained in the Enderun and rose to the rank of çavuş at the palace. He wrote poems in folk poetry forms under the pen name 'Tanbûrî' and set them as şarkıs. With his şarkıs, tavşancas and köçekçes, which carried popular taste into urban music, he is regarded as one of the pioneers of the şarkı form.
