In brief
Life
Mehmed Bey, of the Şâhinbeyzâde family, was born in 1804 in Eyüp, Istanbul, and was therefore called Eyyûbî. At the age of twelve he began taking meşk from Hammâmîzâde İsmail Dede Efendi and carried on his teacher's style. After more than fifteen years as a clerk at the Ministry of War, he devoted himself to music. He composed some forty works in classical forms and in difficult makams and usuls; Zekâi Dede and Hacı Ârif Bey were his students. He died in 1850.[1, 2]
