Life

Born in 1836 in Lesbos (Midilli), he died in İzmir; sources give the year of his death as either 1890 or 1902. He was a tanbur performer and composer; during the reign of Abdülaziz he served at the palace as muezzin and imam. His teachers included Latif Ağa (probably Suyolcu Latif Ağa) and Tanbûrî Küçük Osman Bey. He revived the Suzidil makam. Tanbûrî Cemil Bey and Râkım Elkutlu were among those he trained.
