Life

Süleyman Efendi of Üsküdar used the pen name Rifat in his poems; having memorized the Qur'an, he studied the religious sciences and, because he rose as far as judge, was also called Molla or Kadı. He was one of the musicians with beautiful voices of the reign of Ahmed III; he produced works in the beste and semai forms, mostly secular, and some of the lyrics are his own. He is known to have been alive in 1726; his date of death is uncertain.[1, 2]
