Life

Mehmed Nevres Paşa was born in 1826 in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, was trained in the Enderun and, in the inner circle of Sultan Abdülaziz, held posts such as chief chamberlain and Minister of Finance and of Education. He acquired his knowledge of music and his violin playing from his father-in-law, the composer Kemânî Rızâ Efendi; owing to the demands of his offices he produced few works. His Şehnaz and Uşşak divans have survived. Nevres Paşa, whose poems were also set to music, died in 1872 in Vienna.[1, 2]
