Life

He was born in Istanbul near the Yenikapı Mevlevihane. His father was Seyyid Ebûbekir Dede of Kütahya, sheikh of this lodge, and his mother was Saîde Hanım, a descendant of Kutbünnâyî Osman Dede. After his father's death he was appointed sheikh of the Yenikapı Mevlevihane at a young age and held this post for about thirty years. He wrote the Defter-i Dervîşân, in which he recorded the dervishes who entered the lodge; the work was completed by his brother Abdülbâki Nâsır Dede. The Şevkutarab Mevlevi âyin, which he finished shortly before his death, is his principal known work. Şeyh Gâlib and Hammâmîzâde İsmâil Dede were among those he trained.
