About this workThe story of the piece
The story linked to this piece, as told in the sources. The reliability of the source is shown above it; the sources are listed at the end of the page.
Erzurumlu Emrah was born in the village of Tanbura in the Ilıca area of Erzurum and received a medrese education in Erzurum; this education acquainted him with the language of divan poetry and with aruz (quantitative meter). After travelling through cities such as Trabzon, Kastamonu, Sivas, Tokat, Çankırı and Niğde, he settled in Niksar and died there. In his poems he treated the themes of love, separation and exile with Sufi elements; his poems in syllabic meter are considered more successful. He trained âşıks such as Tokatlı Nûri and Gedâî; his poems spread among the people as türküs (folk songs).
