Life

Solakzade Mehmed Hemdemî was called Solakzâde because his father was solakbaşı (commander of the sultan's archer guards). He was trained at the Enderun palace school and was among the musahibs (companions) of Murad IV. In poetry he used the pen name Hemdemî; his divan has not survived. Besides his side as a musician, his main fame comes from the Solakzâde History, which covers the Ottoman state from its foundation to his own time; this work was printed in Istanbul in the 19th century.[1, 2]
