Life

Nazîm (Yahya Nazîm Çelebi), born in 1647 in Gedikpaşa, Istanbul, was an artist equally renowned in poetry and music. He is known for his closeness to the Crimean khan Selim Giray; thanks to his art he was given the post of superintendent of the Istanbul fruit market. His contemporaries praised his knowledge of edvâr and his skill as a composer; some thirty murabba compositions in the Bayâtî makam alone are recorded in lyrics anthologies. He died in January 1726.
