In brief
Life
Born in Mosul, Osman Efendi lost his sight as a child, became a hâfız at a young age, came to Istanbul, joined the Mevlevî order and rose to the rank of dede. He took meşk from Zekâi Dede, Bolâhenk Nûri Bey and Hüseyin Fahreddin Dede, learned the kanun from Âmâ Ali Bey and theory from Kâzım Uz. He was known as a hânende, âyinhan and mevlidhan (mevlid reciter); he died in an accident in 1920 while şeyh of the Baghdad Mevlevîhane.[1, 2]
