Born in 1873 in Bursa, he died in 1943 in Istanbul. He was a hânende and composer of Armenian origin and did not play an instrument. He received his first meşk from Hacı Ârif Bey and also learned from masters such as Lemi Atlı, Rahmi Bey, Şevkî Bey and Tanbûrî Cemil Bey. He composed many şarkıs frequently sung in the fasıl repertoire; 'Yüzüm şen hâtıram şen' is among his best-loved works.
