Life

Born in Doğancılar, Üsküdar; at a young age he took ney lessons at the Cairo Mevlevîhane and became a “dede” by completing the çile (period of ascetic service) in Gelibolu. He served as neyzenbaşı at the Galata, then the Üsküdar and Bahariye Mevlevîhanes, and enjoyed the patronage of Prince Abdülhalim Paşa. In Istanbul he learned from Neyzen Sâlim Bey. Mehmet Emin Yazıcı and Ziya Santur were his students; his Uşşak saz semai is his best-loved work. He died in 1905.[1, 2]
