In brief
Life
His real name was Sâlih Dede; born in Istanbul into a Mevlevî family, he died around 1888. He learned the ney from his elder brother Said Dede; in 1840 he joined the Mızıka-yı Hümayun and rose to the rank of kaymakam (lieutenant colonel). He served as neyzenbaşı in Mevlevîhanes such as those of Beşiktaş, Bahariye and Kasımpaşa. He is known for his peşrevs and saz semais and created the Güldeste makam.
