Life

He lived in Istanbul in the first half of the 18th century. He was the grandson of Gavsî Ahmed Dede, sheikh of the Galata Mevlevi lodge, and the son of the famous ney player and composer Kutbünnâyî Osman Dede. After his father's death in 1729 he was appointed postnişin (sheikh) of the Galata Mevlevîhânesi and held the post until his death, after which it passed to Mehmed Şemseddin Dede. He should not be confused with Abdülbâkî Nâsır Dede (1765-1821), author of the Tedkîk ü Tahkîk.
