He was born in Bursa and began playing the ney there. Since he bore the title Dede, he is thought to have completed the çile (the Mevlevi novitiate) at the Bursa Mevlevihane. He is reported to have travelled to Istanbul from time to time and played the ney in the city's music circles. Besides playing the ney he composed in the peşrev and saz semâisi forms; his Dügâh Bûselik peşrev and saz semâisi and his Hicaz Hümâyun peşrev have survived. He was buried at the Bursa Mevlevihane. He is also known as Deli Dede.
