Life

Hasan Kenzî was a Halvetî-Sünbülî sheikh, poet and composer. Most sources say he was born in Ayaş; because he lived in Manisa for a long time, he is also known as Manisalı. In Istanbul he became a disciple of Mehmed Alâeddin Efendi, sheikh of the Sünbülî Âsitâne in Kocamustafapaşa, was sent to Manisa to guide followers and founded a tekke there. Under the pen name Kenzî he wrote ilâhis in syllabic meter; he set his own poems and those of Yunus Emre to music. His lyrics were sung in Halvetî lodges for many years.[1, 2]
