Life

The journalist and writer Ahmed Râsim learned music from Zekâi Dede while studying at Darüşşafaka; he befriended musicians such as Şevki Bey, Kemânî Tatyos and Kemençeci Vasilaki. Although he could not read music, he composed some sixty-five şarkıs, mostly to his own lyrics. In his writings he left valuable testimony on the musical life of his time.
