Life

The composer, whose real name was Mehmed Hüsnü, was born in 1858 in Üsküdar, the son of an imam. Because of his beautiful voice he was admitted to the Enderun; he served as muezzin and imam at the Hırka-i Şerif Mosque and taught the Qur'an in the Enderun. He learned music from Sermüezzin Rifat Bey and Hacı Fâik Bey, and taught himself the ney. He became famous for his recitation of the mevlid and the Qur'an; at the end of his life he taught at the Mehterhane. He died in 1919.[1, 2]
