He was born in 1831 in Tosya, a district of Kastamonu, and died in 1899 in Kadıköy, Istanbul. Thanks to his beautiful voice he was admitted to the Enderun palace school, where he studied with Dellâlzâde İsmâil Efendi, and he sang in fasıl gatherings before the sultan. Known by the epithets "Enderûnî", "Kadıköylü" and "Hânende", he trained students such as Lemi Atlı and Şekerci Cemil Bey. About forty of his songs survive today.[1, 2]
