Kemânî Bülbülî Sâlih Efendi was a performer who became famous from the late 19th century onward and carried on the old violin style. For many years he played on the professional circuit and at gatherings in mansions and waterside residences (yalı); on some records he accompanied Tanbûrî Cemil Bey, and he also recorded taksims. Because of his clean and beautiful playing he was called “Bülbülî” (nightingale-like). He composed some twenty-five şarkıs; he died in 1923 in Istanbul.
