About this workThe story of the piece
The story linked to this piece, as told in the sources. The reliability of the source is shown above it; the sources are listed at the end of the page.
Hâfız Kömür Efendi was born in Istanbul and lived in the reign of Mehmed IV. Cantemir counts him among the singers trained by Kasımpaşalı Koca Osman; having also taken lessons from other masters, he became known for his theoretical knowledge and brilliant performance. He is recorded to have composed more than thirty works, mostly in secular forms; three of his works in the beste and semâî forms have survived. He is often confused with the later composer Kömürcüzâde Hâfız Mehmed Efendi.
