Mehmed Nazmi Efendi was born in 1622 in Kocamustafapaşa, Istanbul, into a merchant family from Trabzon. After studying with sheikhs of the Yenikapı Mevlevihane, he joined the Sivâsî branch of the Halvetiyye as a disciple of Abdülahad Nûrî. He served as sheikh of the Yavaşça Mehmed Ağa Tekke (Nazmî Dergâhı) in Şehremini for about forty-five years and preached in many mosques. He was a poet with a divan of his own and composed ilâhis on his own poems; his ilâhis in makams ırak, muhayyer, sabâ and hüseynî-aşîrân are known. His work Hediyyetü'l-ihvân recounts the lives of his sheikhs.[1, 2]
