About this workThe story of the piece
The story linked to this piece, as told in the sources. The reliability of the source is shown above it; the sources are listed at the end of the page.
Mustafa Anber Ağa was born in Istanbul, was taken into the palace at a young age and learned calligraphy and music at the Enderun palace school; he received his license (icazet) in the naskh and thuluth scripts from Belgradî Mehmed Efendi. He taught calligraphy at the palace, was among the rikâbdârs (stirrup attendants), and in 1657 left the palace with the rank of kapıcıbaşı (head gatekeeper). He was known among the musicians of his time for his compositions; although none of his works survives in notation, two of his ilâhis, in the makams eviç and uşşak, are recorded in lyric anthologies. He died in 1684.
