He was born in the Kumkapı quarter of Istanbul in 1872 and died in Istanbul in 1936. An Armenian lavta player and composer whose real name was Hovrik Kazasyan, he learned the lavta and music from Sarı Onnik and became one of Istanbul's well-known lavta players. Newspaper announcements of the time show him in 1908-1909 in the fasıl ensembles of the Royal and İptaloğos music halls in Beyoğlu. His hicazkâr song "Mestim bu gece" is among his works that survive today.[1, 2]
