In brief
Life
He was a composer, performer and music theorist. On 5 April 1933 he founded the journal Nota in Istanbul, published fortnightly under the motto 'Music is the food of the soul', and kept it running until 1935. He argued that Turkish music should preserve its essence while its melodies were blended with the sounds of Western music into polyphony, and he was among the authors of the first studies on the harmonization of Turkish music. His theoretical text 'Türk Mûsikîsi'nin İç Yüzü ve Yeni Nazariyâtı', written in 1938, remained unpublished.[1, 2, 3]
