Life
He was born in 1840 in the Mevlevîhânekapı quarter of Istanbul; his real name was Beşir. While working in the military bureaucracy, he served as muezzin and zâkir in various Sufi lodges. He began music with Hacı Fâik Bey and also benefited from masters such as Bolâhenk Nûri Bey and Tanbûrî Ali Efendi. After the Second Constitutional Era he was among the founders and teachers of the Dârülmûsikī-i Osmânî. One beste, one ilâhi and five şarkı by him are known; Ahmet Avni Konuk and Suphi Ziya Özbekkan were among those he trained.
