Mehmed Baha Pars was born in 1877 in Bursa, the son of the Nakşibendî sheikh Hacı Bahâ Efendi. After the Bursa İdâdî (high school) he completed the Dârüttedrîs and Alliance Israélite schools in Istanbul. He played the violin, piano, ud, viola and cello and attempted to combine makams with polyphonic techniques. Nesteren, written to a text by Abdülhak Hâmid, is considered the first Turkish operetta.
